The EPMA is a Jeol JXA-8500F- Field Emission Electron Microprobe, equipped with 4 WDS spectrometers and 1 EDS spectrometer. It is mainly used to do quantitative analysis either at certain points or areas of the sample. Before arriving to the Lab, samples ( round blocks or thin sections) must be previously polished with diamond paste ( until ¼ µm). Besides quantitative analysis it is possible to obtain Secondary Electron Images and Electron Backscattered images for phase contrast and Element Line profiles and Element Phase maps. Resolution is dependent on the type of sample but is can vary from some hundreds of nm to a couple of µm.
