Laboratory Details

Laboratory for High Pressures and High Temperatures of Experimental Geophysics and Volcanology (HPHT Lab)

The experimental petrology laboratory is part of the HP-HT laboratory and include equipment dedicated to the study of high temperature, high pressure and diverse redox conditions taking place in the planetary interiors, from depth to the surface. The apparata which are used to conduct experiments at high pressure and high temperature are represented by two piston cylinders and four high temperature furnaces, including two furnaces with dedicated mass flow controls for gas mixing. The laboratory is also equipped with a range of sample preparation facilities, which are capable of assisting the whole experimental workflow, starting from the natural sample collected in the field to the in situ microanalytical characterization of post-run experimental products.
