Descriptions

Late Ediacaran magmatism in the Ougnat inlier (Eastern Anti-Atlas, Morocco) is characterized by a varied suite of volcanic rocks, showing a compositional transition from basalt to rhyolite over time. Field studies, lithofacies analyses, and petrographic observations indicate that the magmatic evolution involved shallow crustal processes such as magma mixing and fractional crystallization.
The preliminary obtained results from the analyzed minerals show a spectrum of compositions reflecting possible magma differentiation. The obtained data from feldspar minerals show high concentration of SiO2 (c.66 %), Al2O3 (c.18 %), and Na2O (c.13 %). These results point to an albite composition of the analyzed feldspar crystals. The analyzed biotite have c. 34 % of SiO2, c. 18% of Al2O3, c.9% of K2O, c.7% of MgO and c. 2% of TiO2 in which suggest a magnesium rich biotite. The analyzed garnets have c. 34% of SiO2, 30% of FeO, c. 20% of Al2O3, c. 7% of MnO, 2% of MgO, c. 1% of CaO. In addition, many elements chemical compositions maps for the pyroxene, feldspar, and Biotite—minerals have been performed simultaneously.
In conclusion, the resulting mineral chemistry data will be critically evaluated to refine mineral classification, determine precise compositions, and interpret the crystallization processes.
These findings also will advance our understanding of Late Ediacaran geodynamics in the northern West African Craton and offer broader insights through comparison with coeval magmatic events in Europe.
