Descriptions

We calculated the poroelastic moduli of porous olivine aggregates produced through the experimental dehydration of serpentinite. Additionally, we simulated the compaction of strong olivine hosted porous anomalies within weaker serpentine matrix to investigate how the strength of the porous media affects the compaction behavior. Poroelastic properties were calculated using the segmented micro-computed tomography results from Eberhard et al., 2025 (DOI: https://doi.org/10.24416/UU01-WW5PS8). Calculations were conducted on subvolumes of increasing size sampled from the tomography results. Poroelastic property calculations and compaction simulations were conducted using the MOOSE finite element modeling framework (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.softx.2025.102264). We extended MOOSE to model Maxwell-type viscoelastic deformation, this extension can be found at github address: https://github.com/atarias1/elapid.git. MOOSE input files as well as automation and post-processing scripts are provided in this repository. This repository is linked to an in-preparation manuscript. Scripts used to create figures found in the linked manuscript are provided in this repository.
