Descriptions

This data package contains the reconstructed time-lapse X-ray µ-CT datasets analyzed and visualized in the paper by Qajar et al., "Impact of pore structure and liquid connectivity on pore-scale drying and transport of bacteria-containing saline solutions in building stones: a time-lapse µCT study". The aim of the study is to quantify pore-scale drying dynamics (liquid redistribution, connectivity loss, and an attenuation-based concentration proxy) in stones with contrasting pore structures during evaporation under saline, bacteria-containing conditions, with ultrapure water as a reference. The dataset comprises µ-CT reconstructions acquired during evaporation from three sedimentary building stones (Euville limestone, Bentheimer sandstone, and Maastricht limestone) saturated with either ultrapure water (UPW) or a bacteria-containing sodium sulfate solution (BB; final Na₂SO₄ concentration: 9 wt%). For each sample, multiple 3D volumes correspond to successive drying time points (reference scan at t0 and subsequent scans during evaporation, including intermediate and late stages). The data are provided in six subfolders: (1) Bentheimer_Water, (2) Bentheimer_Bacteria_Salt, (3) Euville_Water, (4) Euville_Bacteria_Salt, (5) Maastricht_Water, and (6) Maastricht_Bacteria_Salt. The dataset supports reproducibility of the image-based analyses reported in the paper. Contact person: Jafar Qajar (j.qajar@uu.nl).
