Descriptions
Shales are an important caprock overlying the majority of reservoirs targeted for geological storage operations as part of the green energy transition. Such operations require a low caprock permeability, and therefore need to avoid the generation or re-activation of fractures in the caprock when this may lead to a loss of sealing integrity. This study presents triaxial compression tests, and permeability measurements on both intact and triaxially fractured samples of Posidonia Shale collected from Dotternhausen quarry. The data provided in this dataset include mechanical and permeability data on these shale samples. The mechanical data were obtained from 11 conventional triaxial compression experiments at constant strain rate. Argon gas permeability was measured for a total of 6 samples, of which 3 were intact and 3 were fractured.
